BERLIN, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- The German government temporarily recalled its ambassador to Iran on Wednesday, a day after the "unacceptable" storming by protesters into British diplomatic compounds in Tehran.

"In light of yesterday's events in Tehran, Foreign Minister (Guido) Westerwelle decided that the German ambassador in Iran should be recalled to Berlin for consultations," a spokesman of German Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement added that "Iran was obligatory under international law to protect foreign missions."

Meanwhile, Iranian ambassador to Germany has been summoned to the foreign ministry for the matter, as Germany acted in "solidarity" with Britain as a partner in Europe, according to the statement.

The foreign ministry of Iran has said it was regrettable for such an incident.
