All British embassy staff leave Iran

16:49, November 30, 2011

TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- All the British embassy staff have left Iran, the state IRIB TV reported on its website Wednesday.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry could not confirm the reports that British embassy staff have left Iran. Calls to the British embassy in Tehran went unanswered.

On Tuesday, thousands of angry Iranians staged protests in front of the British embassy in central Tehran and the British Council compound in the Qolhak area in northern Tehran. Some protestors entered the embassy compound and removed the British flag.

The rampage came one day after Iran's Guardian Council of the Constitution, the country's highest legislative body, unanimously approved a bill to downgrade diplomatic ties with Britain in response to its "hostile" policy against Iran.

Iran should also close the UK embassy. UK deserves it. All Muslim countries should distance themselves from UK.
