New Zealand condemns attack on British Embassy in Iran

15:42, November 30, 2011

WELLINGTON, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand Foreign Minister Murray McCully Wednesday expressed serious concern over the storming of the two British Embassy compounds in Tehran on Tuesday, saying it was "totally unacceptable."

"We join other governments and the United Nations Security Council in condemning the attacks and calling on the Iranian government to take action against those responsible," he said in a statement.

"We urge the Iranian government to take control of the situation and protect diplomatic properties and staff, in line with their commitments under the Vienna Convention."

McCully said New Zealand was thankful there was no loss of life as a result of the attacks on the British Embassy and it expected the Iranian government to ensure there was no repeat of Tuesday's violence against diplomats and their families.
