Moderate quake rocks western Indonesia

JAKARTA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) --A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 Richter scale rocked western Indonesia of Bengkulu province at 00: 43 local time on Wednesday (1743 GMT on Tuesday), the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said here.

The tremor was centered at 74 kilometers southwest Bengkulu city and at depth of 23 kilometers under sea bed.

The agency did not release a tsunami warning.

However, the tremor triggered people to run outside their houses.

"I felt a quite strong tremor in the midnight on my upper floor of my house," Roni, a resident, told Antara News Agency.

He immediately run outside his house to prevent unwanted incident as he was traumatized with a strong earthquake measuring 7.3 Richter scale in 2000 and 7.9 Richter scale in 2007 that damaged thousands of houses and claimed tens of live.
