Serbia reports worsening security in Kosovo

13:00, November 30, 2011

UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Serbia on Tuesday said that the security situation in Kosovo "has been greatly aggravated" since September and blamed the parties concerned for "the unilateral forceful action (that) would adversely affect stability kept being ignored by some key actors."

Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic made the remarks at an open meeting of the UN Security Council on Kosovo.

"The security situation in our southern province of Kosovo and Metohija has been greatly aggravated since the end of the previous reporting period," said the foreign minister, referring to the reporting period of three months.

"Serbia's repeated warnings that unilateral forceful action would adversely affect stability kept being ignored by some key actors," he said, without identifying the parties concerned.

On Monday, 25 soldiers from the NATO-led KFOR force stationed in northern Kosovo were injured during clashes in which up to 100 Serb protesters were also hurt, reports said.

Clashes started on Monday morning following KFOR's operation to remove buses, lorries and other vehicles from the barricade in Jagnjenica. Serb protesters reacted in an attempt to stop the KFOR action, resulting in clashes and an exchange of fire.
