10:09, November 30, 2011

TBILISI, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- The president of the South Caucasus country of Georgia on Tuesday promised that his country's border crossing with neighboring Armenia will be as transparent as that in between Switzerland and France.

"Passengers will be checked in their cars just once," said Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili after meeting his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan, "The Georgian-Armenian border will be as transparent as the Swiss-French border in the nearest future."

Sargsyan arrived in Tbilisi on Tuesday for a two-day official visit.

The Georgian president described the bilateral relations as unparalleled. As many as 600,000 Armenians had crossed the Georgian border so far this year.

President Saakashvili told the media that negotiations between the two countries on simplifying border crossing would soon be over.

Sargsyan thanked the Georgian president for the warm reception. "Armenia and Georgia are building their cooperation on the basis of brotherly relations," he said. "All this is aimed at making our peoples' lives more secure.

"We will be able to diffuse the tension and take steps toward conflict solution in the region," the Armenian president added.

Sargsyan told the media that trade between Armenia and Georgia had increased by 20 percent this year.
