Malaysian defense chief visits Russian aircraft maker on possible deal

IRKUTSK, Russia, Nov. 17 (Xinhua)-- Malaysian Defense Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Wednesday visited a plant of the Russian aircraft manufacturer Irkut Corp. in the Siberian city Irkutsk on a possible aircraft deal between the two countries.

According to the ITAR-TASS news agency, Hamidi said that Malaysia may purchase several Su-30 jet fighters and Yak-130 advanced jet trainer/light attack aircrafts from Russia. The potential deal is estimated to be worth a total of 900 million U.S. dollars.

Irkut is a joint stock company created in 2007, with the majority stake held by the Russian government.
