BISHKEK, Nov.12 (Xinhua) -- Incumbent Prime Minister Almazbek Atambayev won a landslide victory in Kyrgyzstan's presidential elections, the Central Election Committee (CEC) announced on Saturday.
Atambayev was elected president of the country after obtaining 62.52 percent of the vote, CEC Chairman Tuigunaaly Abdraimov said.
Atambayev's main rival Adahan Madumarov, leader of the "Butun Kyrgyzstan" (United Kyrgyzstan) party, gained 14.78 percent of the vote, followed by Kamchybek Tashiev, leader of the parliamentary faction Ata-Zhurt with 14.32 percent.
The election was held on Oct. 30 with a turnout of 60.27 percent.
Outgoing interim president Roza Otunbayeva said the international community has highly appreciated the elections. "The international observers in their reports indicated that the election was democratic, open and transparent."
Otunbaeva's term will end on Dec. 31, 2011. Under the law, the inauguration of the newly elected head of state should be held within 30 days after the official announcement of election results.
Under the constitution, the Kyrgyz president is elected for an unrenewable term of six years.
