Ben Ali's daughter sentenced to 2 years in jail on drug charges

TUNIS, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The daughter of ousted President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was sentenced in absentia by a criminal court in Tunis to two years in prison and fine, radio Mosaique FM reported on Saturday.

Nesrine Ben Ali who fled the country on Jan. 14 along with her husband, businessman Sakhr El Materi, was sentenced for drug possession and consumption. The couple is also involved in several other cases involving real estate corruption, traffic of archeological objects and embezzlement.

Last week a court in Tunis also sentenced in absentia Ben Ali's brother-in-law Belhassen Trabelsi to 15 years in prison for corruption, unlawful trade of foreign currency and precious metals.
