09:05, September 27, 2011

DHAKA, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- A conference between Bangladeshi and Indian border troops started Monday morning in Dhaka, stressing the need for options to boost cooperation between the paramilitary forces of both the South Asian neighbors.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Anwar Hussain is leading a 23-member delegation at the conference.

The 21-member Indian side was led by Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Raman Srivastava, who reached Dhaka Sunday afternoon to attend the talks, according to the BGB spokesman Muhammad Mohshin Reza.

Issues such as the killing of unarmed Bangladeshis along the border, unauthorized crossing of the Bangladesh border, allegations of abducting and detaining Bangladeshis by the BSF and Indian nationals, checking illicit drug trade and fencing within the 150 meters of the International border, would come up in the meeting, according to a BGB press release.

The meeting will end on Sept. 30 through signing of the Joint Record of Discussions.

The BSF and the BGB are counterparts along the 4,096-kilometre long India-Bangladesh border.
