BOGOTA, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Colombian coast guard have seized 2.2 tons of cocaine in an operation that took six months to plan in collaboration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Colombian Army said Monday.

The drugs, with a street value of 60 million U.S. dollars, were seized aboard a speedboat off the coast of Colombia's west-central province of Choco near Panamanian waters, the army said. The boat was on its way to the Pacific region of the United States.

The speedboat was manned by four Colombians and one Honduran, all of whom were detained and are awaiting due process at a Colombian court.
