TEHRAN, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko said Monday that Russia is ready to help Iran build more nuclear power plants.

Shmatko made the remarks at a joint press conference with head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereidoon Abbasi, which was broadcast live on the satellite Press TV.

Abbasi and Shmatko were attending a ceremony for the preliminary launch of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in south Iran.

"Russia will cooperate with Iran in building new nuclear power plants," said Shmatko, adding Russia has ample experience in building nuclear power plants.

For his part, Abbasi said Iran is ready for greater cooperation with Russia in the field of nuclear energy.

Using nuclear energy is an urgent issue for Iran, Abbasi said, adding that Iran should benefit from all its nuclear rights.

Iran will continue to use nuclear energy despite sanctions, said the Iranian nuclear chief.
