ALGIERS, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- A world forum for counter-terrorism comprising 35 countries will be established, Algerian Delegate Minister for African and Maghreb Affairs, Abdelkader Messahel said Sunday.

"This forum, of which the first session is to be held in New York on Sept. 21, gathers countries enjoying capacities and experience in terms of the eradication of terrorism," Messahel told a press conference.

Messahel made the announcement ahead of a conference to be held in Algiers this week on the partnership, security and development between countries in the Sahel region and their partners outside the region.

"The Sahel region has been confronting a new situation caused by the crisis in Libya. This crisis is likely to have repercussions on the region through the circulation of arms and the massive return of people to their countries of origin," Messahel said, adding that such developments "has become a preoccupation for these countries, which hardly posses means to face this situation."

The Algiers conference will be an opportunity for foreign ministers of Algeria, Mali, Mauritania and Niger to discuss the situation and share information on the circulation of weapons and consider how to face such a situation, Messahel said.
