3 killed, 15 policemen injured in car bomb attack in NW. Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and 15 policemen were injured when a suicide car bomb hit a check post near a police station in northwest Pakistan on Thursday night, reported local Urdu TV channel Express.

According to the local media reports, the attack took place at about 8:30 p.m. local time Thursday when a suicide car bomb hit a check post in front of a police station at a business center in Lakki Marwat, a district located some 180 kilometers southwest of Peshawar in northwest Pakistan.

Half of the police station building was leveled to ground in the attack, said local media reports, adding that 18 shops nearby were destroyed.

At least seven people were feared buried under the debris of the collapsed shops, said the reports.

Rescue team is busy with the rescue of the people buried under the collapsed building. More casualties are feared.

No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack yet.

This is the second major terrorist attack reported in Pakistan during the holiday of Eid, a festival celebrated by Muslims after one month of fast which officially ended on August 31.

On Wednesday morning, a suicide car bomb hit a parking lot of a mosque in Pakistan's southwest city of Quetta, killing at least 11 people and wounding more than 20 others.
