BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. former secretary of state Conlin Powell accused former vice president Dick Cheney of taking "cheap shots" at him and other Bush administration members in his new book.

On "Face the Nation" on CBS, the retired four-star Army general Powell told the host that Cheney takes credit for Powell's resignation and suggests that Powell wasn't supportive of Bush's posisitons.

Cheney accounts the eight-year run of President George W. Bush in "In My Time: A Personal and Political Memoir" Tuesday

In the book, Cheney said that Powell preferred to express his doubts and differences with administration policy to others, rather than directly to the president.

"It was as though he thought the proper way to express his views was by criticizing administration policy to people outside the government," Cheney wrote about the former head of the State Department.

"I supported the President's decisions. I gave the President my best advice," Powell responsed, adding that the Cheney memoir attempts to put the blame for "the Valerie Plame affair" on Powell and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.

Cheney has embraced the controversial tone of the book, saying on NBC News last week that there will be “heads exploding all over Washington” when the book is released.
