KABUL, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's National Directorate for Security (NDS) has arrested a dozen of terrorists and Taliban loyalists throughout the country over the last two weeks, spokesman for the body said on Sunday.

"The personnel of NDS have captured a total of 12 terrorists including two suicide bombers over the past two weeks," spokesman for NDS or intelligence agency, Lutfullah Mashal told newsmen at a press conference here.

The arrested men had been involved in organizing suicide attacks, roadside bombings and targeting government interests and officials, the official added.

Variety of explosive devices, arms and ammunition have also been seized from the arrested persons, he asserted.

"All those arrested have confessed to their involvement in terrorist activities and affiliation with the Taliban outfit," Mashal said, adding one of the arrested men namely doctor Faridon is a key member of Pakistan-based Taliban leadership known Quetta Shura or Quetta Council.

"Doctor Faridon alias Sabour has confessed during investigation that he was involved in organizing suicide attacks in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar and Mazar-e-Sharif cities," Mushal stressed.

Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops in Afghanistan and intensified activities since launching spring offensive from May 1 this year have yet to make comment.
