GAZA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli airstrike killed a Palestinian militant in Rafah town in southern Gaza Strip early Wednesday, witnesses and security sources said.

The missile attack killed a member of the military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement and wounded two others, said Adham Abu Selmia, a spokesman for the medical services.

The incident came a day after the Islamic Hamas movement, which controls Gaza, announced that a ceasefire has been reached with Israel. The agreement aimed at ending four days of cross-border violence that flared up after Israel accused Gaza militants of being behind deadly attacks in the Red Sea resort of Eilat Thursday.

By this strike, the number of Palestinians killed since Thursday rises to 16.
