ALGIERS, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Algerian security services killed three militants in an overnight operation in the east of the capital Algiers, the official news agency APS reported Tuesday, quoting a security source.
The source said the security services have killed three militants in an ambush set in the night of Monday to Tuesday in the locality of Bouadil, Municipality of Ammal, Boumerdes province, 60 km east of Algiers the capital.
The source further added that the operation was carried on the base of information collected by security services over the movement of an armed group in the region.
The North African country has faced an increasing threat by Islamist militants since the 1990s. The security situation in Algeria has been significantly improved in recent years since the government adopted the national reconciliation policy and stepped up military strikes.
However, terrorist attacks against the army and police still occur frequently in some regions of the country.
