Disapproval with Australian PM and Opposition leader on rise: poll

CANBERRA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Australian voters' dissatisfaction with both Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott is on the rise, latest Newspoll survey showed on Tuesday.

The latest Newspoll, conducted last week, and was published in Australian newspaper on Tuesday, showed people's satisfaction with Gillard's performance has fallen to 29 percent, down four points from 33 percent earlier this month.

Dissatisfaction with Gillard's performance rose three points to 61 percent, with her rating as preferred leader dropped to 38 percent.

Abbott, however, did not fair much better as preferred prime minister, at only one point in front of Gillard at 39 percent.

Voter dissatisfaction with Abbott rose three points to 55 percent, with satisfaction with his performance falling three points to 36 percent.

Labor government's primary vote fell again, down two points to 27 percent. The Coalition's primary vote remains steady at 47 percent while the Greens gained two percent to 14 percent.

On a two-party preferred basis, the Coalition has gained one point to lead Labor by 57 percent to 43 percent.
