Former Thai PM Thaksin arrives in Japan

TOKYO, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who has lived in exile since a 2006 military coup, arrived in Japan on Monday.

Thaksin, who currently lives in Dubai of the United Arab Emirates, will visit Japan till Aug. 27 and plans to visit regions devastated by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

During his stay, Thaksin will visit two cities in quake-hit Miyagi Prefecture and will hold talks with Japanese politicians from central and local governments.

He is also scheduled to deliver a number of speeches, including one at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan on Tuesday.

Thaksin also visited Japan in August 2008, following Japan's Supreme Court granting him visiting rights after being ousted from power.
