KHARTOUM, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Sudan's ruling National Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday said Abdul-Aziz Al-Hilu, deputy chairman of Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)-Northern sector, should be responsible for any loss among civilians during the recent incidents in South Kordofan State, official SUNA news agency reported.

"The SPLM should be responsible for any loss among civilians during the recent armed clashes in the state," SUNA quoted Political Secretary of the NCP of Khartoum State and member of the party's political sector Nazar Khalid Mahjoub as saying.

He refuted the allegations and accusations against the government of committing war crimes and genocide in the region, accusing the rebels of using the villagers as human shields.

"The government did not commit genocide in South Kordofan," he said, adding that "occurrence of loss among civilians in a scene where villagers were used as human shields is likely."

He further expressed hope that Sudan's partners in the UN Security Council would understand the government's stance and its endeavors to resort security and stability to the rebellion areas in the region.

South Kordofan State has recently witnessed armed clashes between government forces and troops of SPLM-Northern sector.
