Cristina Fernandez leads in primary elections in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Argentine President Cristina Fernandez on Sunday led in the primary elections against the opposition, a senior government official told to Xinhua.

According to the exit polls, Fernandez got 42 percent vote, while the second most popular candidate, former president Eduardo Duhalde, gained over 16 percent.

Argentina will hold presidential elections on Oct. 23.
