CPC members
    By the end of 2009, there were 77.99 million 
    Communist Party of China (CPC) members, 2.065 
    million more than in 2008.

  • There were 3.792 million grassroots CPC 
    organizations, 74,000 more than in 2008. This 
    included 183,000 grassroots Party Committees, 
    235,000 general Party branches and 3.374 million 
    grassroots Party branches.

    The gender, nationality and education level of 
    CPC members: 

    By the end of 2009, 16.94 million female Party members, accounting for 21.7 percent of all CPC members. 5.13 million CPC members from ethnic minorities, accounting for 6.6 percent of all CPC members. 27.873 million CPC members with junior college level education or higher, accounting for 34 percent of all CPC members.
  • ·The number of CPC members has increased to almost 78 million over the past six decades.
  • ·By the end of 2009, the CPC had a total of 77.99 million members, about 116 times of the figure in 1949 when the People's Republic of China was founded.
  • ·In 2009, more than 20 million people applied to join the CPC and the Party recruited about 2 million new members.
Occupations of members

  • ·6.937 million CPC members were workers, 24.02 million were farmers, herdsmen and fishermen, 6.596 million CPC members worked in Party and government offices. 17.725 million CPC members worked as managing, professional and technical personnel in enterprises and public institutions, While 2.269 million were students. 14.525 million were retired, And 5.923 million CPC members worked in other occupations.
