US-based First Solar Company, which is the world's largest thin film solar cell module developer and manufacturer and is listed on NASDAQ, will build a solar energy factory in Erdos, Inner Mongolia.
The factory will be a large solar energy base with an electricity generating-capacity of two billion watts, equivalent to the combined total of two nuclear plants, making it the world's largest solar energy project used by humans.
On the afternoon of July 7 during a visit to the US, Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), visited the headquarters of First Solar Corporation in Temple, Arizona, where he met Michael. J. Ahearn, the company's president.
Wu said that China is emphasizing the need to vigorously develop renewable energy sources such as solar energy and striving to improve the energy structure. This will bring new opportunities for economic corporation between China and the U.S.
Enterprises in both countries can achieve mutual benefit and a win-win situation in industrial cooperation by carrying out joint research, building demonstration projects, jointly developing technologies and expanding mutual investment to improve research, development and application levels.
