The Mauritian Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification of China was founded in Port Louis, capital of the country, on Saturday, news reports from Port Louis said.

More than 300 people, including Gao Yuchen, Chinese Ambassador to Mauritius, officials from governments of Mauritius and Port Louis, and Chinese expatriates, attended the founding ceremony.

Gao reaffirmed that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, saying major international organizations and more than 170 countries having diplomatic ties with China all pledged to deal with the Taiwan issue within the one-China framework.

The founding of the council showed the confidence and resolve of the overseas Chinese in Mauritius to oppose "Taiwan independence," Gao said.

The China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification, Office of Overseas Chinese Affairs of the State Council, the Consulate Department of China's Foreign Ministry, and the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Guangdong province sent congratulatory messages on the occasion of the founding ceremony.

More than 30,000 Chinese expatriates are currently living in Mauritius, All over the world, about 170 similar organizations have been established in more than 80 countries and regions to promote peaceful reunification of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
