Visiting Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff stressed Argentina's and Brazil's roles on Latin America's development on Monday.

Rousseff arrived here Monday at 11:51 a.m. local time (1451 GMT), on her first visit to Argentina since she took office on Jan. 1, 2011.

After a 90-minute meeting with Argentine President Cristina Fernandez and signing 14 agreements on nuclear energy, housing and joint commercial promotion, both presidents gave a joint press conference.

"It is a great joy for me to be in Argentina. My first visit is to this country because I consider Brazil and Argentina are crucial to transform the 21st century of Latin America. They are the biggest countries of the region and have a great potential that Latin America can use," Rousseff said.

"The cooperation strengthens and allows the integration of the countries," she added.

On her part, Fernandez said she reaffirmed during the meeting "a commitment their predecessors began," referring to former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and former Argentina President Nestor Kirchner.

Brazil and Argentina are respectively the first and third economies of Latin America. Mexico holds the second place.

Rousseff returned to Brazil on Monday after concluding the visit.
