A volcano eruption under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland on April 14 sent volcanic ashes to as far as northern Norway, the northern coast of Poland, the southern coasts of Germany, France, Belgium and the United Kingdom as well as the northwest of Russia, forcing cancellation of flights and disrupting air traffic across Europe. Photo taken on April 17 shows a farmer near the volcanic eruption in Iceland comforting his panic stricken horses.
