Foreign ministers from ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea began their annual meeting here Wednesday, discussing measures to promote regional cooperation.

The 11th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting is chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem. Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi leads a delegation to the meeting.

The meeting is among a series of important meetings between ASEAN and its partners which are taking place in Hanoi this week. The ASEAN-China Ministerial Meeting will be held on Thursday and the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum is scheduled to take place on Friday.

The first ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in July 2000 in Thailand.
