The World Health Organization has focused on women for the theme of this year's "No Tobacco Day" with the theme "Gender and tobacco with an emphasis on marketing to women."

Female smokers face even more health hazards than males, including increased risk of menstrual disorders and breast cancer. The report called for government intervention, such as restrictions on tobacco advertising, to prevent a surge in female Chinese smokers.

World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is meant to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe.
