Nigerian President Yar'Adua dead

Nigeria's national security adviser Aliyu Gusau said late Wednesday that President Umaru Yar'Adua died, media reported.

Aliyu Gusau has informed Acting President Goodluck Jonathan of the death of the president, state television reported Thursday.

The government will make a statement shortly.

Yar'Adua died between 9:30 and 10:30 pm (2030 and 2130 GMT) Wednesday, said Nigeria's national newspaper This Day's website.
