Four people were killed and 25 wounded in twin bombs in a restaurant in the center of the Shiite holy city of Karbala on Wednesday, a well-informed police source said.

The first bomb detonated in the crowded popular restaurant at about 9:00 a.m. (0600 GMT) in the city, some 110 km south of Baghdad, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Minutes later, a second bomb went off when Iraqi security forces, ambulances and people gathered there to help the wounded, the source said.

Despite the drop in violence in the last two years, recent series of attacks have raised concerns about the ability of Iraqi security forces to contain violence ahead of the country's national elections scheduled for January.
