Affected by the persistent drought, the water level of Danjiangkou Reservoir, water source of the middle line "North-to-South Water Diversion Project," has been lower than the "dead water level" for several meters.

However, in order to alleviate the water shortage of Han River-basin, which is an important cultivation area for rice, the reservoir has kept increasing its downstream flow for days. This period is a crucial time for the success cultivation and harvest of rice, but it is quite difficult to transplant rice seedlings in arid conditions.
