On Dec. 21, dense fog fell on Chongqing, the largest municipality directly under the Central Government. In some areas visibility was no more than 100 meters and the Chongqing-Wuhan highway was closed.
The Chongqing Meteorological Bureau announced a yellow warning to the public on that day to call for slow and safe driving under the insufficient visibility. Chongqing has long been known as "Fog City" in China for its frequent heavy fog in the autumn and winter seasons.
