The refuge chamber, made of thick steel plates and equipped with storage cells, oxygen, poison gas treatment unit and refrigerator, can provide protection to eight people from explosion, fire and suffocation and maintain life for four days under the condition of being completely cut off from the outside world. The State Administration of Work Safety has ordered that emergency refuge system be built in pits of mines across the country. (Xinhua/Yang Guang)
