Communication tech brings better life to rural communities

May 17 is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. The theme of this year is "Better life in rural communities with Information Communication Technologies."

The development of the telecommunication industry brings a convenient, modern life for the broad mass of rural residents in China. Currently, the number of China's mobile phone users has reached approximately 800 million, and the number of netizens has reached 477 million.

The Internet has been exerting a giant influence on various fields, such as society, economy and culture. In recent years, the telecommunications has undergone a rapid development in southwest China's Yunnan Province. A modern communication network covering the rural and the urban areas has been set up. The communications technologies in rural areas have also been improved.
