Vietnam's Ministry of Health on Wednesday called on people, governmental bodies at all levels and social agencies to join efforts to prevent and control tuberculosis.

The ministry made the call at a meeting held here on the occasion of the World Tuberculosis Day which falls on March 24 every year.

Speaking at the meeting, Head of the Hanoi Health Department Le Anh Tuan said that more effort is needed to raise public awareness on treatment of tuberculosis.

Measures should focus on strengthening capacity building of health agencies in treating tuberculosis and enhance coordination among social bodies to have sustainable financing in preventing tuberculosis, said Tuan.

According to a report of Vietnam's Ministry of Health, Vietnam was among countries with the largest number of tuberculosis patients in the world last year.
