The first A/H1N1 flu case has been detected in Bangladesh, the country's health ministry said in a press release on Friday.

Private news agency bdnews24.com quoting the release said the results of tests on the throat swab and nasal wash samples of a Bangladeshi confirmed the country's first A/H1N1 flu case on Thursday.

The Bangladeshi man returned from the United States about three or four days ago, senior scientific official of the country's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control & Research (IEDCR) Mustak Hossain told the news agency.

Hossain said the patient is now under treatment and his family members have been also kept under constant observation.

The case was found in capital Dhaka, local newspaper The Daily Star said on its website.

Appropriate measures have been taken to treat the patient, the health ministry release said.

However, no more details were disclosed in the release.
