The Spanish Health Ministry has confirmed one case of human-to-human, or indirect, contagion in the current swine flu scare.
Spain has now got 10 confirmed cases of the illness, nine of the patients had been to Mexico in the past days. However, one of those infected in Catalunya in the northeast of the country had not been abroad and was infected by his partner, who had recently returned from Mexico, local media quoted the ministry as saying.
Another 70 people are in observation for fear of suspected infection. However, it does appear that the illness is not as serious as feared, reports said.
All of those in hospital have evolved favorably, and four cases admitted to hospital in Catalunya have already been allowed to go home.
Spain reported on Monday the first confirmed case of swine flu in the country, which is also the first case of human infection in Europe.
