The health ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries will hold a meeting on May 7-8 in Thailand to prevent the swine flu outbreak in the region, a senior official of Thailand said Thursday.

The meeting is aimed at strengthening cooperation among the ASEAN experts and resources in an attempt to guard against the deadly flu outbreak, said Dr. Siriporn Karnchana, deputy permanent secretary of the Thai Public Health Ministry.

This year Thailand is the rotating chairman of the ASEAN, which consists of Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
