Google published a list of the year's most popular search terms — the items that have captured the public zeitgeist on Dec. 2. Who attracted the most global attention in 2009? No doubt, it was Michael Jackson.

"Michael Jackson", as a search item, ranked first on the fastest riser list of Google's Zeitgeist. Therefore, he is the celebrity who gets most attention from global netizens. At the same time, the appearance of many video and social networking websites indicates that social networking Medias have become the future development direction.

On the fastest riser list, except "Michael Jackson", the other items in the top 10 are nearly all taken by words relevant to Internet industries.

Concerning Michael Jackson, who was praised as the "King of Pop", both his music and private life are always the focus of public attention. This was especially true on the day of June 25 this year, when his death led to 'Michael Jackson' being searched on Google at unprecedented levels.

Apart from "Michael Jackson", some keywords in music and film such as "New Moon" and "Lady Gaga" are also on the list.

Three large overseas social networking websites Facebook, Tuenti and Twitter closely follow "Michael Jackson" on the list.

While back to domestic websites, (similar to Facebook) became the biggest dark horse on the list; video and social networking websites, including UUSEE, Youku, Tudou, Kaixin and Xiaonei, make up half of the top ten on the list.

The phenomenon indicates the fast development and potential economic opportunities of video and social networking industries.
