Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong Wednesday called for greater government-led fund support for education sector with an aim to ensure a steady and notable growth of investment in education.

Addressing a national meeting on education investment, Liu urged efforts to improve the country's system of funding education sector with fiscal input mainly coming from the government and additionally from other channels.

She urged drastic increase in education input and increasing the ratio of education investment among the government's overall expenditure in public welfare.

Liu said those policy initiatives introduced to explore funding channels for education sector should be well implemented and the specific funds should be all spent on education.

Further, she urged local governments to prioritize the allocation of education funds for the needy group and for rural areas and remote underdeveloped regions.
