Denmark's eventful Roskilde Festival draws to close

Denmark's Roskilde Festival, the largest music and cultural event in Northern Europe, closed on Sunday evening marked by great performances, heavy rains and one fatal accident.

This year, the festival attracted about 80,000 visitors from all over the world. They braved torrential summer rains and muddy grounds to pitch their tents at the festival site some 35km west of Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

In fact, on Saturday the capital experienced some of its worst floods in almost 30 years.

But as one festival-goer told local media here, "The unpredictable weather has always been a part of Roskilde Festival. We have already prepared for that."

Although there were no unruly or violent incidents at the festival, a woman fell from a 31-meter-tall tower and died instantly on Sunday.

In a press release, Danish police said the woman, 35, was from Berlin.

A police spokesperson told Danish broadcaster TV2 that there was a "strong suspicion" that the woman jumped off the tower herself.

The tower, made out of shipping containers, passed a technical review and there is nothing as yet to suggest the festival's organizers can be held responsible for the accident. Investigations are underway, the spokesperson added.
