Indonesia's Komodo dragon has entered the top 10 of the new seven wonders in the category of nature, a minister said here on Thursday.

Minister for Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik told a press conference that there are 212 national parks that compete to enter the list.

"The Komodo dragon has entered the top 10 of the new seven wonders. I am optimistic that with support of all Indonesians to click and vote for the Komodo dragon, it will enter the top seven," said Wacik.

He added that the government has enhanced a campaign and socialization so that people vote for the Komodo dragon.

"This would make the only living pre-historical animal more famous. If it could enter the new seven wonders, it would be more famous and tourists will further flow to Indonesia to see the animal," said Wacik.

Wacik also said that he will request President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to vote for the Komodo dragon after Vice President Boediono and several ministers visited the National Park of Komodo Dragon to vote for the animal on Wednesday in East Nusa Tenggara province.

"The action is expected to attract more Indonesians to vote for the Komodo dragon," said Wacik.

The final result of the new seven wonders will be announced in November 2011.
