Chinese student wins Toulouse Int'l Voice Competition

Song Yuanming, a Chinese student in Austria, won the 48th Toulouse International Voice Competition which concluded on Saturday in the southern French city.
Since nobody won the first prize in men's competition, Song became the biggest winner in this year's competition.
The 48th Toulouse International Voice Competition was held from Monday to Saturday in which only professional young singers or graduators with honors from institutions of higher learning were eligible to participate.
A total of 115 young singers from 30 countries across the world were qualified for this year's competition.
In 2003, Song was admitted to the vocal music department of University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna where she earned two master degrees.
Last year, Song won the 44th Antonin Dvorak International Vocal Competition in the Czech Republic and was crowned as "The Best Singer."
The Toulouse biennale has been a traditional event in the international vocal music circles.
Liao Changyong, chair of the vocal department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, won the grand prize in the 1996 Toulouse competition.
