A junior visitor is drawing a picture of the Little Mermaid in the Denmark Pavilion on Aug. 21. On that day, Denmark Pavilion also held some activities to celebrate the Little Mermaid's first overseas birthday.

The Little Mermaid, Denmark's national treasure, which is being exhibited in the Denmark Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo in China, is 97 years old this year. To celebrate its first overseas birthday, Denmark Pavilion is going to hold celebrations for three days, and all those activities will be watched by the whole world through video units in the Pavilion.

On the day of its birthday, three Danish water dancers are going to perform fairy tales of the Little Mermaid with their dance; from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on that day, people in Denmark Pavilion will connect with people in Langelinie in Copenhagen to sing the birthday song together. Also, Denmark Pavilion will release the "Little Mermaid's Seal," specially designed for its birthday, on Aug. 23.

The bronze sculpture of the Little Mermaid was made according to a figure from one of the most appreciated fairytales from the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, and it was finished on Aug. 23 in 1913. The celebration of its birthday has been an annual tradition for nearly a century in Denmark.
