In 1577, Father Matteo Ricci was assigned by the Roman Catholic Church to missions in the Far East. After a formidable journey, he finally landed in China.
The great intellectual is regarded as the first man to link the two great civilizations.
After debuting in Beijing, an exhibition recently opened at the Shanghai Museum to mark the 400th anniversary of Ricci's death.
