"Shi Jing" awarded title of "Most Beautiful Book in the World"

The book "Shi Jing" (the Book of Songs), recommended by China, won the title of the 2010 "Most Beautiful Book in the World" at the annual "Most Beautiful Book in the World" competition recently concluded in Leipzig, Germany, the Shanghai News and Press Bureau (SNPB) reported February 22.

The "Most Beautiful Book in the World" contest is annually held in Leipzig, Germany. 32 countries and regions participated in this year's selection contest and recommended a total of 634 books, an increase of 1.28 percent from the previous year.

China's award-winning "Shi Jing," which was published by the Higher Education Press, annotated by Xiang Xi and designed by Liu Xiaoxiang, was favored by the panel because of its elegance, simplicity and originality.

Earlier, "Shi Jing" was also listed as one of the books in the "Most Beautiful Book in China" competition sponsored by the SNPB, and participated in the annual "Most Beautiful Book in the World" contest in Leipzig along with 21 other Chinese books including "Transmission and Integration - Research and Annotation on Illustrated Description of Extraordinary Devices."
