Zhucheng dinosaur fossil stratum confirmed biggest in world

Staff of the scientific investigation is cleaning the dinosaur fossils on Oct. 20.

A scientific investigation team organized by Chinese Academy of Science and Zhucheng City recently excavated a long stratum containing dinosaur fossils at Zhucheng City in Shandong province.

The stratum is 500 meters long, 26 meters deep and more than 7,000 dinosaur fossils were initially discovered there. According to the fossils at lease 10 species of dinosaurs, including duck-billed dinosaurs, horned dinosaurs, tyrannosaurus, ankylosaur, coelurosaur and so on once lived here.

It is understood that many significant discoveries have been successively revealed since the third large scale excavation of fossils began at January of 2008. So far more than 15,000 fossils have been discovered. Not only the fossils of the largest duck-billed dinosaur in the world have been found; but also the fossils of a unique horned dinosaur had been discovered for the first time. Recently, dozens of domestic and foreign experts confirmed the Zhucheng dinosaur fossil stratum as the largest and richest in the world to date.
