A survey of 15 to 35 year-olds in Guangzhou showed that 35 percent are part of the so called "moonlight clan" – a name given people who spend all their money by the end of the month.
The average income of young people in Guangzhou is 3163.45 yuan ($476.77) per month, ranging mostly from 1,000 yuan to 4,000 yuan, according to the survey, which was launched by Guangzhou Communist Youth League School.
And the average expenditure is 1917.39 yuan ($288.97) per month. Seven percent of the respondents were dubbed "NEET group", which means people "not in education, employment or training".
The investigation also found that nearly 50 percent of the polled felt seriously stressed, with economic pressure being the top cause for concern.
