Its head is little, its belly big and it is covered in thin feathers. How can such a bird, which appears to be so stupid and ugly, actually become the focus of millions? By some unexpected miracle, this painting of a bizarre bird was recently auctioned off with a price as high as 250,000 RMB. Now the bird and its price have triggered great debate among Chinese netizens.

Several days ago, a netizen posted an article on a famous Chinese forum and related the news of the bird painting that was auctioned for 250,000 RMB. Once the post was released on Internet, the bird was an instant success, attracting millions of online hits from forums and microblog. Most netizens are very confused about why a simple painting of such a "stupid bird" was worth so much?

According to Beijing Daily's report on Dec. 22, the bird was painted by Ye Yongqing in the year of 2001 on a canvas. Ye never expect that the bird would rise to such fame, and he attributed that to the power of Internet and netizens.

Ye said he intentionally painted the bird like an unfinished sketch with simple lines, but this style of painting needs much more time and patience. He also said he used an unconventional way to finish this painting just to try to challenge people's common sense understanding of painting.
